TikTok, known as Douyin in China, is a Chinese video sharing social network service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based Internet technology company founded by Zhang Yiming in 2012. It is used to create short music, lip-syncing, dance, comedy, and talent videos from 3 to 15 seconds, as well as short looping videos from 3 to 60 seconds.

ByteDance first launched Douyin for the Chinese market in September 2016. TikTok was later launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in most markets outside of mainland China; However, it didn’t become available globally, including the US, until after merging with another Chinese social media service on August 2, 2018.
