Chicago-based institution Lou Malnati’s, known for its deep-dish pizza, is rallying America’s support for an official deep dish pizza emoji, according to a press release.
Currently, only one style of pizza emoji exists.
“America is more than one style of pizza, and Americans deserve more than just a N.Y. slice to express themselves,” Marc Malnati, owner of Lou Malnati’s, said in the press release. “Whether in our restaurants or shipped nationwide, we serve millions of deep-dish lovers every year. It’s time we give these fans their own icon and identity with a new emoji to express our deepest pizza-preciation.”
The brand has launched a website at DeepDishEmoji.com to vote for their favorite emoji design and then visitors are encouraged to sign the official petition at Change.org. Once closed, the votes and the petition will be used to formally propose that Unicode Consortium add the winning design to the universal emoji keyboard.
Lou Malnati’s operates 75 locations in Chicago, Arizona, Indiana and Wisconsin.
